My main influence of some of my favorite music is the stuff I grew up listening to from my Dad. Others are just songs I picked up through growing up. Some remind me of special times. I like a very large variety of music... but I've realized the #1 attribute that draws me to a rock band is the political beliefs behind them such as the Beatles, U2, Pearl Jam, Coldplay and so many others.
I grew up with: Elton (my favorite), U2 (My other favorite and Mom's favorite), Clapton, Genesis/Phil Collins, Supertramp and a lot more... Somehow I picked up on a little Neil Young (probably influenced by other friends who love him), Peter Frampton reminds me of the Caribbean (maybe it's because of those Hawaiian shirts he used to wear), Bob Seger, and so many others.
This song: In the Name
of Love, U2 was actually written about Martin Luther King Jr. and many
people don't know that. Here is a tribute someone made on Youtube using
the song.
